Why England?

Where to start..... my name is Shannon, I weigh: 121 pounds, smoked cigarettes:0, drank bottles of beer: 0 .... oh wait... I'm not Bridget Jones after all :D

Well, my name is Shannon and I'm a 20 year old sophomore at Illinois Central College. It has always been a dream of mine to study abroad in England. I wasn't very particular of which part of England, I just knew that I wanted to go study there. I became an Anglophile (aka person who is friendly to or admires England or English customs, institutions, etc ) since I started reading about Anne Boleyn, King Henry VIII and found out that Orlando Bloom, the actor, was British too :D As I got older, my interest increased and during our senior year at Richwoods High School, my family and I went on a Europe trip which included visiting London and Canterbury! I loved being there and seeing the places that King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn actually were at one time! Plus I was in THE starbucks coffee shop that Orlando Bloom had been too!!
Well, when I found out that I could actually go study in Canterbury through Illinois Central College, I looked into it and seriously discussed it with my parents. It is a once in a life time opportunity and has been a difficult process to actually achieve. I still can't believe that I'm actually going! I will be going to the Christ Church of Canterbury, and staying with a host family. This seems a little backwards because my family has always been the one to host exchange students and now I'm going to be the exchange student!
I started saving a lot of my money from my job at Flat Top Grill as a waitress and started the process of applying for the trip. Through MANY different people to finalize all of the classes, student loans, meetings and such just to be able to go, seemed like there would be someone telling me, "Oh you didn't finish this, so you're not allowed to go!" But I really am going, my plane ticket has been bought, and my money is saved. I'm excited, scared, nervous, and happy that one of my dreams is coming true. I hope that this all doesn't seem too boring for you who are reading this and hope that you enjoy it. Please write comments and keep me informed of what's going on with all of you!
Back to the studio (sorry, another Bridget comment hehe :o) ) By the way, it's a VERY funny movie and you should watch it if you haven't already. Along with Monty Python and the Holy Grail. :D Also another British movie :D

Love *Shannon*
