Finishing off 1st day and 2nd day in Canterbury...
All right, so Kathy and Meghan and I walked to a new way to get to High Street which goes straight through the town. It's the main street FULL of shops, restaurants, bakeries, etc. So we met up with Carol and Erin, who both had class today and we all went to go look for the best deal on the pay as you go phones. There are about 4 places that sell phones on High Street and they're all conviently around one another. There is the votophone store, O2, T-Mobile, and Orange. The best pay as you go phone was at Orange, which the phone cost 10 pounds and then you can add however many minutes onto the SIM card to use through your cell phone. So I got the phone and put 20 pounds on it. I got the abroad SIM card which only charges 7 pence for every minute used, and 15 pence for UK minutes used. So since I was most likely going to be talking less to friends here over the phone and spend more time talking on the phone abroad, I got the abroad deal. I haven't tried using the AT&T card yet, I have heard that they don't work or something, but it's always worth a shot I guess. So after we got our phones we decided to eat a fish and chips restaurant beacause Kathy and Erin wanted fish and chips. I got a baked potatoe with chili and cheese, it was good, and it came with a side salad as well. So after lunch we headed towards school and met people for a tour of the library, which is a lot like what ICC system has, and registering for our Canterbury Christ Church IDs. While we were waiting around for the directors, I met this other guy who is a junior at ISU and is a theater major. His name's Pat and he's very nice. He's from the Chicago area too. So then when the tour was done and we got our cards in the system and will get them in a couple of days, the girls, and I along with this guy name Max, went to a kind of CVS called Woolworths that has everything from school supplies to kitchen ware stuff, to movies and books. So I bought 4 notebooks for school and a planner so I can keep track of things. Then we headed over to Tesco where I bought food stuff for home to eat for dinner. I got bread, peanut butter (haven't tried it yet though, hmm...) chips, deli meat chicken, and cheese slices. So while we headed home, we got to our street and all of our backs were hurting from the long day of carrying out backpacks and stuff, along with groceries, and to top it off it finally started raining! Boo! Oh well, we were lucky to have it be nice out for a couple of days. So then I got home and ate my meal with my host family. We discussed movies and the Sweeny Todd, which I said was good. I told them that people in Peoria at the Rave Theater were wanting their money back because they didn't like and Michael and Katerina were very suprised. They said that no one gets their money back if they don't like the movie, no matter how long they stayed in the theater, or complain either. Hmm.. Bevin, you should take that up with your managers :D So then I helped with the dishes, helped Katerina make the beginnings of a fruit christmas cake, that has brandy in it :) Hmm... although I told her that fruit cake has a bad rep here in the states, so we'll see how it tastes hehe! And then she wants to take me, Megan, and Kathy to a movie tomorrow night. Forget the name at the moment, but it's about an indian girl who has to marry an older man in london and how she struggles to raise a family and independence with her life and love interest. So it's definitely a chick flick so Michael didn't want to really go to it :) He likes other movies and horror films too! So now I have to get some sleep and have school tomorrow! Wish me luck :o) <3 Shannon
