Week of school & again in London.. :)

Sorry that I haven’t written in a while :D This week included school on Tues. and Thurs. In our Brit. Lit. class we discussed Doctor Faustus for about 10 seconds and then went into discussing the tragic hero, his tragic flaw, the style of writing that Marlowe did, and Marlowe’s life. We also had to talk about what it is that we wanted to do for our group presentations this coming week. We each have to talk for 5 min. for our presentation. Megan, Erin and I are in a group and we are going to talk about the sibling jealousy and rivalry of the children in King Lear. We’ll have to think outside the box and try to make our presentation interesting. Grr…I’m not looking forward to it very much. Oh well.
In Modern Britain, we discussed the differences and similarities of the British Government system and American government system. It was ok, but we had a different teacher and he wasn’t as structured as our last teacher. The new teacher was scattering information all over the place, so it was hard to keep my notes in order.

Pancake Tuesday!!!!!! Don’t let me forget to write about this later!!!

In American Cinema, we talked about what to do for our term papers and to email the instructor our topic. I sent him an idea and asked for some help to try to make it more focused. This coming Thursday is a movie day, but I can’t remember the name of the movie at the moment lol! Ethics class was ok, we discussed more morality, and how self-interest is a bad and good thing to have. It was difficult to explain so I won’t really go into the details. You’d just have to be there to understand it haha.
Then Erin and I went to Witherspoons to get some food and discuss what we wanted to do in London. We decided to definitely see a show on Friday, and then see if we could go to Stratford- Upon-Avon with Mallory.
I went home to book our hostel and we booked it at the Ashlee House. Thought that it would be in the central area of London, but it was at the last minute booking kind of thing and I just wanted a place to stay. Oh well. The tube was easy enough to get to the hostel anyways.
So on Friday morning, I had all my stuff packed and went to meet everyone to get on the bus for the 2 hour ride into London. We split into 2 groups, where one did a walking tour of some of the historical sights of London, and the other group went into the Cabinet War rooms used by Winston Churchill during WWII.
We did the walking tour first and went around in nice weather looking at some historical sights. We saw # 10 Downing Street, where the Prime Minister Gordon Brown now lives. Walked around St. James Square and saw some beautiful apartments, the first bowler hat shop, famous shoe shop, some famous Gentlemen’s clubs, Trafalgar’s Square, and then got dropped off at the National Art Gallery.
When we passed by the TKTS booth where we would buy our musical tickets, I realized that I had been there before. 2 summers ago I was there with my family and my first French student Fabrice!! I took a picture of the All One Bar, where we ate lunch, and the square where all of those men were running around because England had won a match during the World Cup. There was also the Haagen-Dazs store where we all got desert afterwards!!!! I couldn’t believe it haha!!
We took a break for lunch and then discussed the shows that people wanted to go see. I desperately wanted to see Spamalot, and ended up being the only one to go see it. I got the 8th row seat right up by the stage!!! I was soo excited!!! I didn’t care if I was the only one going to see it, I needed my Monty Python while I was here in London, England for Pete’s sake! :D
After the lunch, we switched groups and went into the Cabinet War rooms. They were just a floor underground and it dealt a lot with WWII and what Winston Churchill did. We were given these cell phone devices and what ever room we were in, we punched in the number that was on the wall and listened to the history of the room. It was similar to Dover’s underground tunnels, with control rooms, living quarters, etc. It was all right. Then there was this whole museum dedicated to Winston Churchill and it was basically his whole life’s history laid out to walk around and read about. It took a while, but it was interesting. I know Ben and Mimi would have appreciated it a lot more than I would lol.
Once we were done with the museum, we basically were free to do whatever we wanted because we didn’t have to go back to meet the bus going to Canterbury since we were staying in town.
I’m at school right now so, more later, have to go work on a project lol :D
